Blog V Wiki

In today's society, networking is everything. Collaborations with other people is almost always necessary. You can only get so far working by yourself.

In a blog, the only author of the blog, is yourself. You can post anything you want and your readers will read it. An example would be a blog from a person in Brooklyn. The blogger used their blog to help lead police into a drug raid.

In a wiki, the authors of the wiki are many people. Usually wiki's are used for a collaboration focused on a specific topic at hand. The most common example of a wiki is Wikipedia, where it's a pool of information from different users/authors.

As stated in the Brooklyn blog example, there was one main blog, but there were many readers who read it and comment about the drugs. The author and the readers collaborated together to successfully help the police.

A new idea a wiki could be used for is, managing events. There is always something happening around the world and it would be great if everyone posted into a wiki where people can go on to see if any events are happening around them.

  1. I really like your idea of a wiki for events!
While I've seen blogs that include posts for events around NYC, it is the opinion and recommendation of one person which limits the variety of experiences. However, I think if it was a wiki where everyone contributed to include various events, it would be very informative and an interesting resource and community.

  2. I agree with your point about the differences between Blogs and Wikis. Blogs are more of an individualistic product while Wikis are more of a collaborative "we're all in this together" kind of product.
