Blog Social Networking

Social networking, a big part of today's society have many usages. Social networking can be used as job recruiting. A major social networking site; Linkedin is a network of over 8 million professionals spread across the world. By just using keywords in the search function, you can narrow down your search to find the exact candidates that you are looking for. Linkedin allows users to share their information and because of this, you can find people faster with the increased amount of contacts available.

There is of course a "dark side" to technology. One such example is demonstrated in the Youtube video, "Facebook in Real Life: Your Annoying Status". With the use of social media, people are constantly updating their status for others to see. However that can be annoying for some others who are scrolling on Facebook.

Based on a NY Times article, today's teens and children may be missing out on experiences that help them develop empathy, understanding emotional nuances, and social cues. Even though social media helps in developing technology skills, those skills are overshadowing face-to-face human interaction skills.

In my opinion, social networking is a great tool for communication and networking. However, people should not rely on only social networking and tech skills. Being able to have face-to-face human interactions are important. There should be a balance between these two areas.

  1. Hey Enjia,

I completely agree with your point that social media is an amazing tool for people to keep up with their friends and loved ones easily but it has shown that it can make things very impersonal in many ways. Hopefully people can learn to value face-to-face interactions again in this age of technology.

  2. Hi Enjia,

I agree that social networking has cons and pros with millennials today. The invention of LinkedIn has helped many professionals seek jobs and network with people they would've never thought they would be able to. LinkedIn expands your networking circle across the world. However, social networking has also decreased face-to-face interaction, which is essential in the development of social skills. Teens and children are lacking empathy and emotional nuances due to social media. We have to be able to find a balance between social media and face-to-face interaction.
